Quite conveniently, my trip to Austin landed right in the thick of the music portion of South by Southwest, when 6th Street and most of downtown Austin are swarmed by the music industry. I heard there were 250,000 more people in town this year than there were last year, and I can definitely say it was PACKED. This was definitely a new way to experience the city. 24 hours a day for two weeks, downtown is alive with activity...movie premiers and screenings, concerts, even street busking.
On our first night, we were able to see Paper Route, who I've been listening to for a couple of years now but hadn't ever had the chance to see live. They put on a fantastic show in a tiny venue called the Velveeta Room where, during the previous band's performance, the venue operators were threatening to shut down their own show because the band was playing too loudly. Bizarre. Thankfully, there were no problems for Paper Route.
Walking home ended up being the most efficient at the end of the night, and I'm glad we did because we walked right by this beauty on our way...
More to come!
